I'm just updating my handbook again and I think I should add some wording about new medicines. I'm sure there is a rule about not accepting a child who has just been given new medicines to take i.e. AntiBiotics? I think something about the first 24 hours in case of reaction? Can anyone confirm this for me so I can put some extra wording in the relevant policy?

TIA :)

We have an exclusion period of 24 hours for new courses of medicines at the nursery where I work, in case of adverse reactions to the medicine.

I do this but there is no rule just do what you feel comfortable with.
I put it in my medicine policy that if a child is well enough to attend and has seen a doctor who has prescribed medicine then I will accept the child 24 hours after taking the first dose, in reality its the next day if the child has been to the docs on the monday morning or afternoon and the medicine has been taken then i'll accept on tuesday if they are well and able to join in as normal.
I do have a mother that commutes over 2 hours away though so I tend to check who else could do pick up if I wasn't happy or she will work from home and the child will do half day, it depends what the antibiotics are for.
