My DD1 is starting primary school in August. We need help with child care before and after school 3 days a week but after school care is oversubscribed and childminders all full- any suggestions? How do people manage?!!!

That's early to be full! Do they have a waiting list for after school? Maybe some parents would have it as a back up but end up not using it. Same for childminders in area, put your name on any waiting lists.

What area specifically are you in? I'm a nanny in the Southside and you never know it could be close by and I might know someone! PM me if you don't want to say on here.

IME at the school gates theres a few childminders etc and SAHMs then some grandparents or other family and afterschool.

Thank you for the lovely replies! My DD is enrolled for Merrylee so if you know of anyone that would be great! We are 21st on the the waiting list for after school club and the lady said she cant see us getting in.
I keep thinking there must be other families in the same predicament but havent met any yet!

Sorry, not any where near me :( I imagnine you have tried Childcare.co.uk, and the local CIS?

Noggie · 06/03/2011 21:33

Hi, yes I have searched Childcare,co.uk, put an ad on gumtree , gor childminder names from council etc What is CIS? Part of me thinks that I should just wait and see if I meet a similar mummy over the next few months- but I am concerned that a magic fairy may not appear!
Thanks for your suggestions.

Child inforamtion servcies - the council :)

All i can advise is to keep looking on gumtree and childcare.co.uk as new ads and people join all the time. And keep putting your ad on too.

Hi
Did you get the list of childminders from CIS online or a paper copy from the council. Sometimes there are Childminders who are on the paper copy but dont want their names online.
Also have you asked at the school reception or at local nurseries/ toddler groups if they know anyone with vacancies. I know around here that sometimes even if everyone says they are full when they you phone them, once childminders start talking to each other they can normally find someone who can do it.
I dont know for sure but can you get a list of Childminders from the Care Commission as there may be some just registered ones on that who could help.

oh and i know its not the done thing to recommend other websites but have you tried putting an ad on the local netmums childcare board.

Thanks for your help! I am going to pop down to the school and ask at reception- will probably be thought of as a worried mummy before my daughter has even entered the building!
