Reduced hours for nanny - short term

My DH has been off sick for some time and we have honoured contract we entered into with nanny before he was off sick (since she started in November)
He is now returning to work, reduced hours for a time, and we are up against it in terms fo paying her as he is going to have his salary pro rated down whilst he is on reduced hours.
We are going to to have to reduce her hours from 40 to 33 we think, for a minimum of 2 week, possibly 4-6 weeks.
We are otherwise very happy with how things are going.
She lives at home and has no big financial responsibilities - ie no mortgage, no kids of her own etc.
How would you take it if it was you ?

depending what you pay her, if my hours dropped 7 a week so £70ish for 6weeks - i wouldnt be able to survive

she may live at home, but may have car loans/credit card bills etc

Your contract is to pay 40 hours a week. If you don't want them to work all those hours, they could take holiday for the hours they are not needed but you are still paying.

Maybe see if they will accept delayed payment. So an underpayment this month, then an overpayment later on once DH is back at work.

I would not be impressed

BUT.... I had my hours reduced (from 4 - 3 days) when my DB was off work with long term sickness (over a year)
also they didnt reduce my pay by 25%, it was a bit better than that so my hourly pay went up, but total amount went down.

I stayed there doing 3 days a week while i looked for another job, (they knew i was looking, i kept them in the loop etc) then handed in my notice and left, cause i couldnt afford to only work 3 days a week

I would have LOVED to stay there though and we were all very sad that i ultimately had to leave because of it. They wanted me to stay too, but we all understood and there were no hard feelings.

Its life!
