Hello, hope this isn't too dim a question, but what sort of activities do you provide for after school for 5/6 year olds? My own DS comes home shattered and doesnt want to do very much at all. I will be minding a child of a similar age after school soon. How much do you provide/expect from them IYKWIM? Thanks!

Mine all want/need freeplay after a structured day at school. They have free access to all the toys, books, dressing up etc. or can do some arts & crafts (maybe colouring, cutting, sticking, junk modeling etc - the bigger craft sets/activities are saved for the holidays), playdoh/painting (although I set these up in a controled way otherwise my ds2 would have it all over the house Wink). We have a Wii which doesn't get used often but could be in moderation. When it's not so cold, we often spend up to an hour playing in the playground after school (I take a snack bag with me) but if we do that then they can't do painting when we get back as I have to go straight into cooking mode to get them fed in time :)

yy free play, chillout zone, snacktime, nothing structured except for holiday times

My mindees seem to love colouring in. Basic crafts, simple board games, hide and seek and just chilling.

Enjoy Smile

Looneytune has describe my afternoons with my minded kids to a tee! Except I must admit that I do not go to the park all that often because I have one 21 month old who is a livewire and needs very close supervision. So I might go when I do not have him.

I do lots more in the holidays! The afternoons after school are for taking it easy! Sometimes we go to soft play if it is only DS and one other!
