In the process of registering to be a childminder. I currently work as a nurse 16hrs a week and take home about £850 a month (take home) .
I know this a really good wage for part time work but need a change.
Realistically could i earn about £800(take home) a month childminding. I have 1 dd who is 7 and live southampton I think childminders charge between 3.50 and 4.50 an hour. Not sure how much to allow for tax etc and how long does it usually take to get up and running? Thank you

im not sure you could. You are only allowed 3 under 5s at one time so if you had 3 full time, depending on charge would be about £350 per week but take into account all the extra charges to yourself (being home extra gas electric etc, food, petrol for trips, and the tax and NI, plus resources etc, insurance)
It can take a while to get set up, OFSTED registering can take up to a year sometimes and you need to do the ICP before you can start. \\\then advertising etc so it could be a while before you get 3 fulltimers!

It took my DH 6 months to get registered (despite being registered before) and he took on one full timer straight away and it was another 6 months before he took on his 2nd child. There are extra expenses, as Bonkerz has said. Would you also take on school children? Maybe from your DD's school?

Maybe some after school. I thought if i had 2 children about 3 or 4 day that would be about £700 a month take home or am i way off!
