I am currently looking into a few work options this being one of them.

Would you be able to give me a rough idea of costs involved etc

I registered in December.

So far the costs have been £35 registration fee to Ofsted and £35 for the Health Check form to be signed off by my GP.

Other than that it differs from Council to Council really, some give a start up grant so you can claim back costs after you've registered (mine does)

You'll need a paediatric first aid certificate and then some EYFS training but this may be provided by the council or you might have to pay for it yourself (and then claim it back after through the grant) You'll also need Public Liability insurance, but again here that's covered by the grant.

Of course then there's the safety equipment (stairgate/fireguard if you want to use them) and toys/resources but you'll not know what toys/resources you'll need until you've got a child booked in - no point buying all baby things then taking on two after school children instead.

Your best bet would be to ring your local Council and see if you can get onto a pre-reg course, that will give you all the info (and forms) you need, and they can give you an idea of what costs they cover and what you need to pay for yourself.

Yes, I've had my reg cert through but am waiting for a new one as I've got a variation so I can have an extra under 1, and my Public Liability insurance starts of Monday, I've got a friend's daughter waiting to start Grin
