I am interested in how you occupy a one year old all day. The child I work with has a very brief attention span. Ideas/break down of your day would be great.
Thanks

How many months?

It depends if child is walking etc.

Big activities that take up 1hr+ could be playgroups, classes like monkey music, swimming, going for a long walk, feeding the ducks, storytime at the library/choosing new books or CDs (never to early to start reading).

At home you could make music with saucepans and wooden spoons/various other kitchen utensils, put in some music and dance/sing, do clapping rhymes, play with sock puppets.

Peekaboo advancing to hide and seek (you only pretend to hide your eyes!) or making a den out of a big box to hide in

Messy activities: finger (whole body) painting, water play, gloop, cooked/dried pasta, baby safe homemade playdough, tearing/scrunching up paper

A treasure basket is a great idea for that age for 20 mins or so at a time and you can rotate the items round.

A good routine will help the day go faster, and I definitely recommend getting out the house to something each day, and if you're stuck for activities think of skills you want them to develop/the next developmental stage and how you can work on that.

Hi, I'm currently looking after a one year old. We spend the morning at a toddler group, then lunch, then he sleeps for 1.5 hours, a little play then the school run. After the school run he loves being with other young children and they all get on well together. Think the key is definately to get out in the morning. When the weather gets better, or even now if its not too wet, you could go to the park, feed ducks, walk around local area, library, museum, toddler groups, and where I live I am a member of a wildlife park, which also has a toddler group one morning a week. My one year old loves our music basket. I have been collecting instruments over the past few years. Some new, some old form charity shops. It will all get better come April, then you can use the garden a lot too. [My garden is currently a builders yard - new garden due to be constructed in the next month] have really missed it over the last 6 months.
GoldFrankkinsence.. Love the idea of a treasure basket. What do you put in yours?

Treasure basket ideas here

They're really addictive when you get going!
