Did the school run as usual - no mindee there!

One of my school pickup mindee's was ill yesterday so I didn't do the school run but we'd left it that the mum would only call if she was NOT back at school. Anyway, no phonecall today so went to school as usual, left my house at 3pm and waited until 3.40pm (she's usually out by 3.30) then called the mum. She answered - oops, knew I forgot something hehe! Bascially, her dd went home ill today and she forgot to call me. I asked her if she could call me either way tomorrow as I wake the toddlers up for the school run and then they get all excited in the car waiting, I could have done without the hour out today if not needed! I know the mum forgot but I've had lots and lots of problems with this one and this has just topped it all!!

Sorry, just having a rant!!!

By the way, do you think I'm in my right to still charge considering I was out for the school run for an hour??

Yes I do. My CM charges for the first week that the child is ill anyway.

skinnycow · 28/09/2005 16:39

yes i do think you should charge for the hour - sometimes there's only 1 way to learn.

lunavix · 28/09/2005 16:42

I charge if they're sick anyway.

Thanks guys, I'm so soft and find this stuff hard but I didn't go out in this weather for the fun of it

If I am ill no charge if they are ill full charge.

HellyBelly · 28/09/2005 16:46

I do usually charge if they are sick but unfortunately, I only CURRENTLY have a school holiday contract for her - the school run bit is a newish thing and due to delays in confirmation of after school activities etc, I've been waiting and waiting for the contract to be confirmed and signed.

I think as we now know what is required (found out on Monday) as of when the after school things start, I'm going to get the contract signed asap and just put a note saying I'm needed on all days until the clubs start. I'm getting fed up now with all the messing around since school started (long story!!)

Thanks again!

Well charge her and it might make her think twice about doing it again.

HellyBelly · 28/09/2005 17:07

will do

With school pick-ups, I charge full fee for the child even if they don't come on a contracted day (because they've got football practice, have gone to friend for tea, off sick etc.) I look at it that they have "booked" a seat in my bus, and I can't give it to anyone else. (I'm much more lenient with everything else, so everyone is happy!)

I'm the same I charge if children are sick but not if I am.
I also charge if they get picked up early or go to a friends houyse etc.
Basically I charge for my contracted hours (but don't worry if they are a bit late or whatever as there are times when I don't have my after school mindee.
I wouldn't have been impressed if I'd made the trip especially. I have to go to the school anyway to collect my DS so its not so bad if this happens to me (I met the dad there one day last week - he'd finished work early and forgotton to phone me.)

This happened to me too. Was meant to take two kids after school, had done so for about a year regularly. Arranged to take them to soft play after school and met their mum at the school gates with both of their changes of clothes and she said how excited they both were to be going. Went to pick them up after school and only 1 appeared. Waited in playground for 2nd one but didn't appear. Every child gone home, so asked janitors to check toilets etc. Teachers also joined in search for her. By this time I'm sick with panic thinking I'd missed her and she'd been snatched by some wierdo. No -one could find her so janitor said go home to check she's not there and if she's not we'll call police. By this time I'm crying and shaking with my 2 and other mindee in tow. Go home, she's not there(isn't allowed to leave school without me). Before calling janitor and police I decide to call their mum, praying she knows where daughter is. But as I had her clothes to take her out after school thought mum would say she's meant to be with you. Anyway call mum and say was mindee doing anything after school and mum said no she's meeting you. Honestly nearly faint and throw up. THEN mum says oh she might be going to so and so's after school. I say well is she or not, so mum says I'll have to phone so and so's mum to see if she's there. Another 10 minutes of sweating for me. Then she calls back and says mindee went to a friends after school, mum forgot to tell me, even as she was handing me her daughters change of clothes that morning.............I couldn't talk for crying and shaking.

What can I say, I don't have them now, let them go shall we say
