I've been updating my handbook a bit at a time over the last few months and yesterday spent 4 hours working on it. I finished, was sooooo happy I'd covered everything I wanted to and couldn't wait to print and give to parents next week.

BUT.....

When I pressed close (thinking I was on another document) and said NO to saving changes, I realised I was actually in my Handbook .....YES, I lost the bloody lot of it!!! :( Yes, I am set to autosave every 10 mins BUT if you press NO at the end, that asd file goes and all is lost BOO HOO.

I'm now starting that 4 hours again (I have no time for all this work as it is so you can imagine how upset I was!! grrr) and will be pressing SAVE, SAVE, SAVE throughout.

I just wanted to share my horror story in the hope I stop anyone else doing the same.

My new rule is CHECK TWICE, CLICK ONCE!! :)

:( you poor thing. I've done that before, but not quite as bad.

pippin26 · 10/10/2010 11:14

I REALLY feel for you looney.
I done that with one of my uni essays.
I had been updating and tweaking it for 2hrs, it was late at night and i just clicked the wrong bit - I cried!

What I learnt from that - press save reguarly through updating.

looneytune · 10/10/2010 11:44

I cried LOADS BlushGrin

I've been pressing save after scrolling through each page this time.

I think the worst part was my life has been so mental recently (like many of us!) and I haven't been well (long story) and part of making me better is to get totally organised. I never have enough time to catch up so this 4 hours was so precious and it was just WASTED - it's that wasted time that made me cry the most I think Blush

Anyway, SAVE, SAVE, SAVE is the way to go now!!! Grin

Blondeshavemorefun · 10/10/2010 12:21

i have done this before when updating contract/cv etc and Angry - also lot the lot when had a power cut and lost letter i was writing

always save after every adjustment/paragraph etc :)

looneytune · 10/10/2010 15:44

I'VE FINISHED!!!! Grin Not as happy with the wording and sure I've missed something but still, I've finished :)

DCameron - yes, you were right. I still had to check the whole doc for spellings and stuff but the fact I'd already thought through wording yesterday DID help :)

Blondes - Oh dear, guess we all learn the hard way! I was doing the same, saving every time I adjusted a paragraph etc.
