Panicking about not finding a nanny....

We recently had to let our relatively new nanny go for various reasons...so this is now my 3rd week off work and am now really panicking about the thought of having to take a 4th and how this will go down at work!

The agency we used are supposedly trying to find us a replacement, but have only sent a few CVs so far, and most of them not that impressive (no childcare qualifications and very little experience!!). I've chased them up, but I'm kind of getting the idea that they are not that bothered and so I feel I need to focus my efforts on finding someone myself.

I've been searching nannyjob, childcare.co.uk, gumtree and findababysitter and I've contacted at least 15 people - but none have worked out so far (no longer available, too far away, not come back to me etc etc). I haven't put ads up yet - I've done this before and it didn't seem to yield many good candidates.

My work also has an employee assistance programme and they are searching for me and are due to come back to me tomorrow, so am crossing my fingers.

I know there is always the option of an emergency nanny to allow me to go back to work in the short term, but I am really reluctant to do this because of the disruption to DS and the cost. I'd really rather wait to try and find the right person. I just thought it would be easier than this (btw we are offering market rate salary and all usual t's and c's so don't think it is because we are being too mean!)

I'm not sure what else I can do? Am I missing something? Any ideas really appreciated. Dreading calling my boss on Monday if I've not found anyone....

Are there any other agencies local (ish) to you? Maybe you could get a temp nanny until you find a perm nanny?
What area are in you? Maybe someone on here know's of a nanny that could help you out?

What was wrong with your new nanny and do you think this is making you tougher on the interview/selection process?

Are you in an area with a good nanny market? I notice you're not self-advertising - it might be worth a try. The netmums childcare boards and the nannies looking for work thread on here might be useful. Also try greataupair and nannygps to find nannies near you - everything's worth a try!

Good luck.

Does it have to be a nanny?

What about a childminder / nursery?

How old is your DS?

He's 2.

Nanny is preferable to CM and nursery as my job and DH's job can occasionally be unpredictable in terms of hours. Also prefer to think of DS at home in his own surroundings when I'm at work. That said, he is on a nursery waiting list, but it is very long...

I didn't think of advertising on MN - will do that.
