Car Insurance for Foreign Au Pairs

Tiffany70 · 25/08/2010 21:05

Can anyone help me get around this?

I have found that car insurers will only allow foreign au pairs to have insurance on our car for a month at a time, and for a total of 90 days (3 months) in a year.

This is both prohibatively expensive, and useless, as our last au pair was with us for 4 months, and the next one for 11 months.

They need the car as we live nowhere near local facilities or hospitals etc.

Help!!

Looking forward to hearing from you,

Tiffany

Call an insurance broker and get them to look around for a provider. Give them all the details and they may find an underwriter who will consider doing it.

We found a policy through elephant.co.uk but had to phone and speak to a real person. The policy is with a company in the Admiral group.

I found Tesco Value were the best for the APs car (but you have to go via the Tesco website because the comparison websites only include the standard Tesco insurance, not the 'value' brand one.

We used Elephant too.

I should add that we are adding the au pair to our insurance policy as a third named driver. She doesn't have her own car. Don't know if this made a difference.

Ive used lv, tesco and admiral but the ap has been a named driver on our policy.

DadInsteadofMum · 02/09/2010 15:54

AP is named driver, and usually had no problems, the only time I had a problem was when had Candaian AP and some insurers refused to recognise her license as valid to drive a manual car.
