CRB check for nannies

You may have seen from my other post that I am looking for an after school nanny. I would prefer that they have a CRB check. I have not really had much joy from agencies so have placed my own advert.

How can I get a nanny to get a CRB check if I am not using an agency. Is this something that the nanny can do themselves. I know you can do it through Ofsted but is there any other route they can get it just in case we decide not to go down that route.

If I do decide to do Ofsted is there a website that has all the details?

Thanks.

You can't.

Nanny can ask an agency to do one for them.

Consider how old a CRB check you are happy to accept. I'm Ofsted registered, yet Ofsted have not done a CRB check on me for 3 years.

The new ISA scheme was supposed to be starting which would have enabled nannies to get a CRB and ISA registration which would be continiously updated and parents would be able to check status. That scheme is now on hold - current government does not want to do these checks.

Before Soham we didn't have CRB checks. Do you really need one?

I can do one for your nanny if you want. Ask her to email me ([email protected]).

I agree with Nick. Do you really need a CRB? You could just ask her to disclose her criminal record and then hire a someone to verify it. Would probably cost you less than signing up to an agency, who might then want you to pay for the priviledge of hiring this nanny, or find her a better job for which they will get commission leaving you high and dry.

Not that agencies would ever behave in such a manner. Hmm

Kim, how would you go about doing the check as you would not be meeting the applicant - so could not do ID verification. Would you use the same system that Ofsted use whereby they get the postoffice staff to check ID?

It would depend on where they were located.

I had an agency do a crb check for me as family wanted a new one (my current role full time job I have one every 3yrs) and the agency was based over 200 miles away (the family used same agency but had moved 40 miles away from me) - family paid for it and I sent the agency all my documents recorded delivery and filled in the crb paperwork online and this is ok

Some of the nanny payroll companies eg Nannytax also do CRB checks.
