Any thoughts on settling in at CM?

My DS, 2yrs next week, is starting at a new childminder in September. He is used to spending time at a childminder but we've moved so starting with someone new.

he's just going for 2x 6hrs sessions a week. Any ideas on how to settle him in or do I just throw him in at the deep end. he started at current childminder a year ago and used to cry arms outstretched as I left for about 3 weeks but I think he's quite robust now.

Any thoughts?

What does the new childminder recommend?

She hasn't yet. I'm going to see her tomorrow to sign the paperwork and I assume she'll ask what I want to do re: settling in so I'd like to have a vague idea of how I want to answer the question.

TBH she might not necessarily ask, she might have her own "settling-in policy" all ready and waiting. Mine had quite a well-thought out policy, written-down and handed to me. It gradually built up from us playing together to me going away for 30 mins, then 1 hour, then half a day, then the whole day. It did build up but pretty speedily as DD reacted well. I didn't just throw her in the deep end, but then I wasn't in a massive rush for her to be settled.

I found that it was useful for me to have a vague idea in advance of how much time I could take off work to do short hours for DD to settle in.

HTH.

Thanks for that. I don't want to faff about too much because I think he'll either settle or not and I accept that he may be upset when I leave but as long as I keep coming back to collect him he'll get used to it.

Perhaps I was just a bit ahead of myself.
