Au Pair World

Hi,
I have got my last three au pairs through au pair world and normally when I put up my profile I am inundated with applications - about 20 a day or so. This time however, with same profile as last time I am only getting 2 or 3 a day.
Has anyone else noticed a change in volumes or know why? Are there more families using it these days?
Does it bump you up if you change your profile or just if you log in do you know?
Thanks.
Whizz

I think it moves you up if you log. It might be worth changing profile tho' as it might move you up as well or highlight you as new in some way.
could the low volume be because many places are in holiday mode now? I put up a profile in April and had lots of replies. HTH

AuPairWorld are bloody rude. Give your money to someone else.

I just hired my first au pair (previoius hires have all been nannies) and I too noticed a general decline in responses. I think it might be a sign of the market. Or maybe it's the time of year / length of contract (as my job is only until mid December).

Strix - couldn't agree with you more - I found aupairworld to be very rude and won't be using them again!

Strix/RedVelvet, why do you need to contact AupairWorld at all? I have used them many times online and each time just got on with it.

This is supposed to be peak aupair hiring season so not sure why you are not getting the responses. I've had more than 300 responses over a week - I am in London though, not because my terms are superberlicious.

You get bumped to the top when you log in. I used to log in at least 5 times a day when I was actively looking for an au pair. Number of replies can depend on the start date you require eg. Lots of au pairs want July-sept starts. Dec-Jan starts are much less in demand in our experience.

i just heard from a girl who wanted to use apw - they didnt like her phone number and address, so she sent her telephone bill in but they still didnt approve!Shock

Never had cause to contact APW though have used their site loads of times, but would not surprise me - these sites tend to be run by IT people, not anyone with a particularly empathetic interest in their clients.

Greataupair has loads more people on it and you can do better searches, but I have found GAP also full of fraudulent/bogus stuff which gets irritating after a while. Also GAP has lots of nannies on it as well so I have to filter out loads of applicants because they are not looking for standard AP role. Apart from that I think it's pretty much the same.

Haven't noticed a drop-off in applicaitons on APW but have definitely noticed a shift in demographics - very few Scandinavians, loads more Spanish. No doubt due to different countries seeing out the credit crunch in different ways.
