Childminders - how do you structure your fees when mindees start preschool?

I'm in the process of registering as a CM, and I'm close to a primary school with preschool attached. There is no other childcare provision in the village, so I think I may get approached by parents of preschoolers who may want just afternoon care, or care to wrap around the preschool session.

However, when I start minding I'll have 2 kids under 3 myself so I can ony take on one more, so I don't want this to be one that only pays for half days, IYSWIM.

How do you structure your fees in these circumstances?

Who is reponsible for collecting the child from preschool if the preschool has to shut for some reason?

If you take a child to preschool and pick them up, then I think they are considered to be in your care even whilst at preschool. So taking up a childcare place, thus pay should reflect that.

Some CMs I know charge whilst child is at preschool. Another childminder I know prefers not to charge but will charge for any actual care provided such as times preschool is closed.

Hi I will have this situation from Sept. One of mundees will start pre school, I am taking and picking her up and effectivly in loco parentis as parents at work so if shes sick the I will pick her up...

so will charge the same amount as always have done as she is still effectivly taking up a place.

if I didnt charge then it wouldnt make sense, I cant fill that place while she is at pre school and I would be out of pocket.

I have this Policy, it may help.

UNDER 5?S IN OTHER SETTINGS

A child is counted as an under 5 by Ofsted until they are in full time education i.e. at school for 10 sessions a week.

A child who is at pre school is a under 5 and if they are with a childminder before and after pre school, and require a fulltime space during the holidays they therefore are taking a childminders full time space. As such you are required to pay full fee for the time that they are at preschool, as the childminder cannot then fill the part time that they are at pre school.
