Are people hiring nannies right now?

Just that really!

Am flitting between leaving my current family and staying...hours are being cut in Oct (Losing 18h) when Charge goes to nursery part time.

I had decided to stay as I can't find another full time job, so I figure if I stay until next July, yes my hours are cut but at least I'm in a job IYGWIM

So, are people hiring nannies? it seems as if not as many people are... recession etc!

Am in London if it makes a difference!

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

yes there are still jobs in my area (kent)

got 2 friends who run nanny agencys and both are busy, tho say aug is slow as people are away, but have jobs in for sept/oct start

3 nannies i know have just found jobs, one 5days and 2 3 days

If you are flexible I am sure you will find something.

I have just put an ad in gumtree and had 150 hits in less than an hour and been inundated with responses and some are pretty good candidates.

But I think flexibility is the key eg working for one family for 2 days and another for 3. Or be willing to do light housework while the LOs are in nursery (or else be willing to take a 12noon to 7pm job)

I'm looking for one - interviewing at the moment, but a part time position (although this is because I'm going to be working part time!)

Thing1Thing2 · 28/07/2010 12:26

Sorry - that was not very helpful.

When the DTs were babies - I had a nanny for two morning a week, just so I could escape and do my own thing.

You may be able to find temp morning work with new mums that just need some me-time and then you will not need to leave your current family.

Or with mums that do part-time project type work and need small pockets of childcare that you could provide in the mornings.

I've got an interview today for a temp position but not sure about permanent jobs as my agency isn't passing them onto me as I may have a job for September.

Thanks all!

I've talked to MB and we will do the contract Sep-Dec then if it isnt working for me (Or her), we're not stuck in a year long contract

Would love to find some work for the 3 mornings but that DOES seem impossible!

Juneybean-how was your interview?

It went very well, the mum seemed really pleased with me it's only for 4 weeks though so it's something to fill the time and keep some pennies coming in

fab interview went well - well done
