NannyTax or PAYEforNannies??

Hi,

We're employing a nanny (part-time) for the first time and want to use a payroll service (is that the right term??) to work out how much tax/NI etc to pay. There seems to be a lot of talk about nannytax but PAYEfornannies is half the price... does anyone know why? Is NannyTax better? What makes it better (if it is)?

Any other advice for a nanny novice?

Thanks

You need to look at what you want them to do. I feel that is likely to be:

Setup PAYE scheme
Deal with HMRC correspondence
Prepare annual end-of-year returns
Electronic Submission of returns
Produce the nanny's P60.
Calculate weekly or monthly pay
Keep all necessary records.
Provide weekly or monthly payslips
Calculate quarterly HMRC payments (tax, NI, employers NI) and notify you of when and where to send such payment.
Provide a P45 when nanny leaves.
Calculate any SSP, SMP or any other statutory payment.

You may also want:
A specimen contract
Advice on contract and employment law.

As far as I can see both NannyTax and PAYEforNannies will offer all that. So it then comes down to things like price and customer service.

PAYEforNannies seems fine to my (as a nanny, plus my boss is happy with them). I'm not sure why you would want to pay more for NannyTax... maybe someone will post saying why they have decided to go with NannyTax rather than one of the smaller firms.

ADVICE: Agree a Gross Salary, not Net.

Also look at Nannypaye - can't praise them enough .

I am a mother employing a nanny and use PAYE for Nannies, chose them for precisely the reason that they are cheaper than NannyTax. Have used them for a year now and very happy with their service - they do all the things that nannynick lists.

Thanks for the replies. I have googled and googled and can't find anything that NannyTax does that the cheaper ones don't so think I will go with the cheapest (PAYEforNannies) - although I have also had NannyPAYE reccommended by a friend in RL - what is it that you like about them salty?

NannyNick - thanks for the advice re gross salary

Brilliant customer service - they provide lots of advice on employment law and contracts, way above and beyond what they need to IYSWIM.

Plus they are a nice and friendly team .

I've used PAYEforNannies for three years and am very happy with them - friendly, polite and efficient, so I'd be happy to recommend them.

I agree with Salty, NannyPaye get my vote everytime and are amazing with the amount they know! - Also, if your cheeky enough to ask, they do a price match!
