Just thinking of all the bits i need to put in my contracts. Just wondered what you do about bank holidays? Do they still pay you? Or not, with childminders?

Thanks

When I used a childminder I paid her for bank holidays but didn't take my child to her. I could have if absolutely necessary (like if I had been called into work). But that never happened. So she got free pay on those days. I found this to be standard industry practice so I think you could get away with it. But I think it should be pointed out and discussed with the parent before they sign the contract, as these things tend to go over better if they are not a surprise.

I don't work bank holidays so therefore don't expect parents to pay for a service that they aren't getting.

I only charge for bank holidays if I work them which so far has not happened even though a couple of my parents are doctors. I chose not to charge cos I do not want to work on bank holidays (well do not mind 1 or 2 but do not want to work all of them) so feel that I should not charge for them IYSWIM.

Sorry, just to make my previous note clear - I charge but am available to work, just not been needed so far as the parents want to spend their day off with their family.

I don't charge for BH's as I don't want to work them and aren't available.

I charge 1/2 fees for bank holidays, and also a week at Easter and Christmas Eve to New Years Day inclusive.

I would charge a higher rate if I worked the bank holiday (haven't been asked to in 4 years of childminding).

I don't charge for bank holiday if they don't want to use me, but if they want to use me they get charged a slightly higher rate. my dh gets bh off and we like to enjoy the long weekend together when we can.
