...does this mean im more likely to have an overdue first baby? Have had plenty of BH, ligament stretching, midwife was adamanat i was going to be early until appt this week showed bump was head down but still free. Now on next appt she wants to talk about induction four days AFTER my EDD. Anyone else experienced this?

Are you sure she means induction rather than a sweep? Recommended minimum time for induction is edd+10 to 14 depending on your hospital.

Anyway it's way too soon to be worrying about that! Midwife sounds a bit barmy, there's no way of knowing you'll be early (especially with a first baby), and just because you're not engaged now doesn't mean you'll be overly late either. It's not an exact science and there is no crystal ball. Statistically, most first babies in the western white collar classes arrive around edd+8.

Just concentrate on relaxing, making sure you're mentally prepared for the baby to come, and physically prepared (nappies bought, etc). And get your feet on a bowl of cold water, you must be expiring in this heat! Good luck, plenty of help and info on here if you do need to start considering other options in a couple of weeks.

I had a MW appt the day I went into labour and the head wasn't engaged. Baby was born less than 24 hours later. And it was my first baby too! And I was 3 weeks early... So you never know really.

Means bugger all. DD was engaged at 31 weeks and stayed there. Born 2 months later.

They can't induce you against your will though I expect they wouldn't induce at +4 anyway. Perhaps a sweep?

phew is comforting thanks guys! yea i do think my midwife is pretty barmy-she's currently distracted with the world cup! i also thought an induction at such an early stage as a bit nuts...at least i know i can refuse if i wish. Think im worrying too much this late on in the pregnancy as im so impatient as well! lol least its not long to wait :D

Hi,

I am 40 (+2) weeks at moment and my baby's head wasn't engaged at 38 weeks either, at 39 (+5) it was 4/5 engaged so only just starting to head down and I am not sure if he has gone any further or if my MW just said it to make me feel better anyhoo!

I have got an appointment on Tues to talk about induction but it is only to 'talk' about it and make a plan should I get to 40 (+10) maybe this is what your MW meant.

Good luck
