Is this my first post-childbirth period? Sorry if TMI...

Hi,

DD is 6 weeks and exclusively breastfed.
My periods didn't start again with DS until he was 6 months old.
I've had really dark mucus discharge for about a week now with no smell (sorry, I said it might contain TMI!) and then yesterday it changed to very red blood. But still a bit gloopy, like bloody discharge.
Not heavy, just like a light period, but enough to need to wear pads.

Is this a period or should I see the doctor?

I also (as of today) have mastitis. And the first signs of cystitis. Are they linked, to the bleeding or each other maybe?

Have you had your 6 week check yet? I think you should speak to a doctor just to be on the safe side. I had a light period when ds was 8 weeks then nothing until last week (hes now 8 months!) and I'm breastfeeding but I had just started taking the pill. Have you completely stopped bleeding from the birth?

Yes, sorry meant to say - bleeding from the birth stopped quite quickly - a couple of weeks maximum.

6 week check is next week but have booked to see the doc this afternoon. Like you say, better to be safe than sorry.

Was just wondering whether anyone elses first period started like this? My first one after DS was just like a normal period. No discharge beforehand but then I suppose it was much longer after the birth.

From what I remember the first period was normal but light but the last period (I guess my first "normal" one - I'm off the pill now) started a bit like how you described. I was thinking about going to see the doctor when it turned more period-like iyswim!

hi there no not TMI! def get it checked out, a restart of bleeding (as in my case) was a bit of an infection. I stopped the after birth bleeding quite quickly then it started up again after about 6- weeks, thought it my period,but then felt a bit out of sorts too.

I was given some antibiotics, it was sorted out in no time, the bleeding stopped again.And... I didn't actually have my first period until a year afterwards - result!

Gutted... It's a period. Already.

So I got antibiotics for my mastitis and went on the pill...

Not going to make the same mistake as before and end up falling pregnant when my LO is only 6 months old!
