What would you be hoping to feel exactly?

Sorry, a rather silly question, but after 3 days of stop and start contractions I don't want to go into the hospital to be sent away and told nothing has happened... Was sort of considering trying to feel around a bit myself, but don't really know what I'm feeling for tbh! Am hoping someone might know? This is my 2nd DC and this labour is nothing like the first - DD was fast (less than 11 hours all from first "Braxton Hicks" to her emergence!)

TIA

My NCT teacher told me that if you can't feel your cervix then it hasn't dropped into place ready for the birth yet. I don't think you will be able to tell much more than that though - such as if dilating, effacing or whatever, I think that's quite an expert thing to measure.

You clearly need clean fingers and need to put one leg on the side of the bath or whatever then just have a gentle feel.

If you are not used to what it feels like there then you might struggle a bit tbh. I used to check cervical positioning when ttc so am well acquainted!

I checked mine before i went to hospital.

You would want to try and feel cervix. Before I went into labour could feel it like soft moist "nose" ie sticking out a bit. A few days before that I had tried but couldn't find it at all. A few hours later it had effaced (ie was flat, no longer like a nose) and later I could feel a gap of a couple of cm.

Yes as MumNWLondon suggests. I checked myself before ringing the MW with DD as with DS I had a very long latent phase and didnt want to ring her if things were not happening.

I was quite confused to come across something big and hard...then it slowly dawned on me that would be her head
