Newborn bowel movements... Is this normal?

Need some advice...

My little lady Kitty, who is 3 days old, is taking about 1-2oz of milk at a time, no set pattern really, just as and when she wants it, sometimes she goes hours, other times just half an hour.

Quite happy with that, but I'm concerned about her bowel movements, literally everytime she eats, she poos... I'm not sure this is normal? And she really strains, some of the poos have been really watery, and sometimes there's not much there.

Do I need to worry about this? Could she be intollerant to the milk? Or is it all completely normal?

I've never had this with any of my other 3, so just a little worried.

Thanks ladies
xxxxx

is she bottle fed?

i know that bf babies have yukky marmite brown sticky poos for the first few days, then move on to pippy korma style ones..... can you ask your mw when she pops in to see you?? congrats btw!

Going lots is normal and newborn poo is supposed to be pretty runny but watery sounds a bit too runny. When is your next MW visit? I would ask her opinion, if it doesn't feel quite right to you then ask, there is certainly no harm in checking

Yes she's bottle-fed.

I see the mw again on Friday, just didn't want to leave it if it was anything sinister.

You'd think i'd know, eing as this is baby 4.. lol!

If you are at all worried then it is fine to ring and ask for a visit earlier.

i missed that it was your 4th baby.....if your instinct is at all concerned (which it must be to post here) i would call the mw...she'll be able to talk to you over the phone, or can arrange to come and see you....

instinct counts for a lot when having children...x

Hi doodlexy, my little girl has a milk allergy and has very watery, greeny nappys almost 10 times a day but also bad tummys that appear to be colic (all day long) and is quite sick. she also had a skin rash come up after having formula milk for the second time at 7 weeks old, I was informed when my daughter was 3 days old it can just take a bit of time for your baby to get used to the bacteria in milk to start with and to give it a bit of time but if you feel that she doesnt get any better make sure the doctors do something for her as the doctors kept telling me my daughter just had colic and she was getting worse and worse until she came up in the rash which was quite severe they finaly took notice and referred us to a dietician. good luck and let us know if she gets any better!
