C-Section wound 13 weeks on and still open

Hi,

I gave birth over 3 months ago and I still have an open wound from the c-section. It started off a small hole and gradually got bigger and infected twice. After 3 courses of antibiotics, the wound is no longer infected and apparantly looks "clean and healthy" according to the disrict nurses. They come in every second day to pack and dress my wound. I am no longer sore, but I am so fed up with having to get it packed and I am desperate to properly excercise. In the last few days the hole has got deeper again.

Has anyone else experienced anything similar to this? Any advice?

My wound has not been seen by my GP for about 9 weeks. Thinking that I should get an appointment to see GP next week if no improvement?

Totally fed up - didnt think that 13 weks down the line I'd still have bother.

Thanks in advance.

I think you need to get an appointment with your GP tomorrow rather then next week. Have they swabbed it for bugs?

Definitely go and see you GP ASAP!! Mine healed fine, so no direct experience, but that doesn't sound right.

Yes, its not infected. The nurse say that it is healing and not to worry..

Hmm... I would still worry and go and see a GP. It probably is fine, as the nurses have said, but I'd get it checked out anyway.

Agree!

My mum had similar trouble - her infection didn't get better until they swabbed to properly match the antibiotics.

If your wound is getting deeper I'd be sceptical about it being infection-free.

Go to your Gp, and also when the nurses come to dress it tell them that you want dressings with silver in them. They cost a fortune but that's what the hospital gave me when my c-section wound was still open after 6 weeks and it healed up really fast.

Ali, they are using silver packing at the moment. They have been using this for about 5 weeks. I'll phone GP in the morning.

Oh you poor thing It's so uncomfortable, isn't it.

Definitely go and see your GP tomorrow. I was given a stupid low dose of antibiotics first, and also the wrong ones for the infection. Do you know what you've had?

Are you eating well, getting rest, taking vitamins etc so that you are fit to help the healing?
