Hello! I'm 39 weeks pregnant today and feel nowhere near ready to pop - well, mentally I'm ready, but physically I don't feel markedly different from how I felt at 34 or 36 weeks. I remember thinking much the same in my last pregnancy, which ended in a (straightforward) induction at 41+3. This time I'd quite like to avoid an induction if possible but I don't think I'll want to hold out beyond 42 weeks.

So! For the sake of bored curiosity only, I was hoping you could tell me when you went into labour in your first and subsequent pregnancies. I have had a few "twinges" this time which I didn't last time - more frequent and more intense braxton hicks, and a couple of days of on/off period-type pain last week, but I doubt that means anything, right?

First 40+10
second 40+2.
The second time I felt further along, if that makes sense. DD1 was smaller than DD2 in spite of her longer gestation and I was really looking forward to meeting DD2, whereas I was mostly scared with DD1 (which is my non-scientific theory for why she stayed put!)

First 39+4
Second 40+6

The last week of pregnancy on dd2 was the longest of my life. Having gone a few days early on dd1 I had convinced myself dd2 would be earlier.

DS1 40+4
DS2 38+3

Didn't believe I was in labour 2nd time as was convinced he'd be at least another 2 weeks!

DS1 - 41 wks + 5
DD1 - 39 wks + 1
DS2 - 41 weeks

One and two just started on the day - although with dd I was just like turtle, which ended in a gallop to the hospital. DH was so determined with number 3 not to repeat the experience that we did the journey last time in 35 minutes (including dropping children off) and we live an hour away

thelennox · 06/07/2010 20:37

Oh, and with number 3 I had niggles for days and days, but when the real thing started, boy did it start.

dd1 - 27 hours of labour after an induction at 41+3

dd2 went into labour spontaneously at 4am (40+2) and had a fairly easy labour and birth, delivered her just before midday with copious amounts of gas and air. Waters kind of broke slowly around 5am and the pains really hit from 10am onwards. (milder contractions from 5am til 10 am)

Hope all goes well btw xx

DS1 40+0
DS2 41+0

BUT.... DS1 18 hours labour to get to 3cm dilated
DS2 half an hour to get to 6cm dilated

DS1 26 hours from start to finish
DS2 6 hours from start to finish

PrettyCandles · 06/07/2010 20:43

Dc1 39+3, born 48h later
dc2 40+6, born 24h later
dc3 40+6, born 2h later

No BH with dc1, masses with dc2. With dc1&2 lots of backache twinges every night for a couple of weeks before going into labour. With dc3 distinct but irregular and relatively mild contractions every night for a few days before going into labour.

Any the wiser?

DD - 39 + 6 - no signs at all until waters broke at 39+5. Contractions started about 5 hours later. DD was born about 18 hours after waters went

DS - 40 - period pains, braxton hicks, backache. Slow labour for 4 days. Waters were artificially broken at 6cm (about 20 mins before he came out)

boogeek · 06/07/2010 20:44

DD1 40 + 18
DD2 40 + 8
DD3 40 + 12

weaselm4 · 06/07/2010 20:48

DS - 40+3 (induction due to PRM)
DD - 40+9 (induction) Had loads of twinges and BH in the weeks before, but still needed a pessary before she'd budge! (Mind you, when she decided it WAS time, whooooosh!)

Sariska · 06/07/2010 20:49

DC1 - 40+7 (born 40+8)
DC2 - 40+1

40 + 11 (induced)

40 + 11

Dalrymps · 06/07/2010 20:52

Dc1 induced at 42 weeks

Dc2 induced at 42 weeks

mackerel · 06/07/2010 20:55

DC1 induced on due date due to high bp.
DC2, 3 and 4 all between 7 and 9 days late. Sorry. Not what you want to hear. FWIW try and hold out. The labours were MUCH better and worth the heavinees and lethargy and tiredness of being pregnant at 41 or more weeks.

marriednotdead · 06/07/2010 20:57

DC1 39+5
DC2 37. 15 hours labour followed by emergency CS (partial placenta praevia/foetal distress).

mousymouse · 06/07/2010 20:57

dc1 induced at 37 weeks (waters broke)
dc2 spontaneous at 41+0

Jetbaby · 06/07/2010 21:00

DC1 40+2
DC2 40+2
