Contractions stopping & starting

I'm well overdue, at 42+1 so looking at being induced tomorrow if things don't take their course. I managed to get to 4cm over the past week with just period-like cramps and last night had around 5hrs of actual contractions. They tailed off however at about 4am and I fell asleep. Nothing's happening now, 12hrs later, though thankful for having had a good rest. Had an acupuncture treatment too this afternoon but it was not my usual trusted practicioner so I'm not sure how effective it will be.
Any advice or similar stories gratefully received as I feel like I am staring into the unknown!

I saw my MW yesterday (am 40+8) and she said lots of sex. I got started with some gel with DS1 which she said was actually only a synthetic version of sperm, so sex + orgasm might give you a bit of kick start. After I started I walked and walked and walked, but bouncing on a ball would probably be abit less tiring because I ended up walking round the hospital all day Is this your first?

I've been having contractions starting and stopping, and at first I thought this is false labour but I've had a show (yesterday and day before) so I'm assuming my cervix is doing something it should be doing.

I had about 4hours of contractions at 20 min intervals last night but then they tailed off so I'm not sure what's going on - have appt at hospital on Monday but hoping that I go into labour naturally.

How did you get on weloveboo?

May i join your thread? I've been having them on and off all week now - 2 on Monday, only 5 minutes apart, 1 on Tuesday, none on Wednesday, one on Thursday, no more till 5 tonight... do seem to have stopped again now though.

Am 40 + 3 today. This is my first so not sure what to expect, but they do seem really strong when they happen! No show as yet.

Well that's four mornings of on and off contractions for me and last night (well 1am til around 7.30am) I had very painful contractions - was on the verge of phoning in to the ward but thankfully held off as it turns out they've gone now and just having isolated contractions just now.

Have my post dates appt today so when they check the cervix I better have dilated at least 1cm or I'm going to be so disappointed that all that pain was for nothing over the past 4 days

pootles2010 I hope you go into labour soon. It's just disheartening to have these and to not make any progress.
