Hi,

I spoke to my consultant today about being induced at 41 weeks. They said they will do a stretch and sweep from 39 weeks, weekly, then they will assess me at 41 weeks to see if im ready to be induced. I had a stretch and sweep with my first baby but it didnt work and i was induced at 42 weeks. I was wondering if it worked for anyone else at 39 weeks with second baby? Thanks

My health service didn't do sweeps till 40wks. I had one then and it didn't work. I had another one at 40+10 which was very violent and my waters broke 2 minutes after.
Try to be patient. I know its virtually impossible but try!

I had 2 - at 40 and 41 weeks with DS, didn't do anything for me, I'm afaid!

Have spoken to my MW about sweeps again this time and she's said I can have them more often - 40, 40+3, 41, and 41+3 (if needed). They won't do them before 40 weeks up here...

Fingers crossed - you'll go into labour spontaneously and won't need any of them.

It didn't work for me at 41 weeks with 3rd. (apparently I was 4cm dilated)

Try acupuncture

I had a sweep at 40+5 with DD - went into labour 12 hours later.

Had a sweep at 38+2 with DS (in an attempt to avoid an induction) and went into labour two days later despite the midwife pronouncing that things were "unfavourable".

On that evidence I believe they did work for me and weren't painful as such, just mildly uncomfortable. I did have two very quick labours however - 5 1/2 hours and 1 hour respectively
