40+4 with DC2, contractions stopping and starting

I'm getting really fed up - is this real labour?? 40+4 with no.2 and on and off all week I've had lots of 'is this it?' moments, usually the period-type pains and braxton hicks build up in the evening and then fade away overnight.

Last night I hardly slept and today have been really uncomfortable. It got to a point the contractions were 5 mins apart and I called DH home from work, hospital bag in the car etc, but it didn't feel quite bad enough to go into hospital yet. But this evening it's all slowed down though I'm really uncomfortable, especially if I walk around, lots of low down pains but not regular contractions anymore.

How long will this go on for?? DD was 1 week late, and I had about 12 hours of slow build up, with period-type pains gradually turning into regular contractions, then a quick 3 hours of established labour at the birth centre before she was born. People keep warning me that 2nd labours can be very quick, but this seems the opposite!

Baby is fully engaged but the midwife won't give me a sweep til Sun I've tried a hot curry, bouncing on my birthing ball, long walks, even sex last night, which I guess might have brought on all today's malarky! It doesn't help that DH and MIL who is staying keep asking me every 5 minutes if this is it!!

Gonna try and get some sleep but will no doubt be back at 3am - any advice gratefully received!

I've had this almost every evening for the last week - I'm 40+4 with my 3rd. Although I've never got to the point where I think I'm in labour, I have had to time the contractions/BH a couple of times just in case. It's every evening like clockwork and then I go to bed, wake up and they're gone again!

It's exhausting isn't it?

Hopefully we won't have too much longer to wait though...

My dd2 was like this, BH were very strong didn't know if I was in labour or not.... she was born the day they just didn't stop. I am wondering if your dc is on the way out now, son't think it will be long for you. Good Luck
