sweep at 40+1

Hi everyone,

I was given a stretch and sweep today and 3 hours later on had to go (for unrelated reasons) to antenatal day unit for fetal heart monitoring. There they found that I'm having 'tightenings' every 5 minutes. Does this mean I'm in labour, or will this settle down again? I'm a bit freaked out as I wasn't expecting the sweep to do much. The midwife said it was a good idea to have one this week as it left open the possibility of having one next week as well and that cumulatively they might do the trick. I have mild period type pain and backache but nothing dramatic.

Anyone had any experience with this?

Oooh it may be the start of things! I had a sweep on my due date and DD arrived the next day.

I woke up to mild period pain and this continued on till about 4pm then it got much stronger and I definitely knew I was in labour. DD arrived soon after.

The sweep was really really effective for me - though the doctor who did it at the time said my cervix was favourable (ie ready to go and was just waiting for a small nudge!)

HTH. Hope everything goes smoothly for you.

ohhh sounds promising. I had a bad back and tightening for about a day and a half after sweep then they became cc. Good luck and lots of labor vibes .
