Question about post-natal bleeding?

Had my baby girl four weeks ago, and had very heavy bleeding afterwards but didn't think it anything out of the ordinary. Breastfed for the first two weeks, and then half-breastfed for the third week, no longer breast feeding now.

The bleeding was very heavy for the first two weeks, but started to slow down at 3 weeks and came to a complete stop two or three days ago. Then for the past couple of days I've had "period pains", kept telling my mum and my OH "I feel like I'm due" but heard you're not supposed to start having periods for at least 56 days - and this is delayed by any breastfeeding?

Anyway, bleeding has re-commenced today - could it be a period? Or is this still part and parcel of the post-childbirth bleeding thing?

Just keep checking that you do not pass a clot. If you do you should make an emergency appointment with gp, save the towel and show him/her. That is what all the guidance said, when this happened to me I did exactly this and my ex gp couldn't have given a flying......, he looked horrified and he was the gp in the practice who chose to specialise in supportive pregnant women and new mothers! (Needless to say I switched practice straight after this!) Did turn out to be postnatal bleeding but everything was fine.
