Third labour starting and stopping

I'm a week over with my third child. I've been having contractions on and off since yesterday afternoon, but excrutiatingly, they keep stopping.

Although my first was quite a long labour, the second came on pretty quickly.

Any idea what I can do to keep the contractions coming? Just to complicate, I've got SPD which rules out the brisk walk.

Curry, raspberry leaf tea?

All the midwives I've spoken to have told me to expect this with my 3rd - apparently they're the most unpredictable and tend to start and stop.

They've also said that once it does start it should be quick. Have you got a ball you can bounce on? I can still manage that with spd and it might help.

Good luck and hope something happens for you soon. I've still got another couple of weeks to go.

nipple tweaking? there is clinical evidence it works. and easy to do whilst watching telly - a good half hour is recomended at least..

sex if you can bear too.

This is very normal with a third child. It is called a 'long latent phase'.

Be reassured that every contraction you are having means one fewer contraction later on.

I was on and off for a week with my third (did exactly this post 10 weeks ago as was so pissed off) - thought I was going to have to in to hosp. at least four times but it always stopped when I went to bed. Got a sweep on due date cos MW felt sorry for me and I was 2-3 cm. He came the next day and in about 3-4 hours - best labour ever (waterbirth - highly recommend it). MW told me my third labour would be like this and it was - just really frustrating for you though - hang in there.
