I've also posted this in Pregnancy but didn't know if it was the right place! Just wanted to know the general opinion regarding birth experiences at Treliske. Just moved back down here after being away for a while, and have been chatting to friends who've recently had babies and their partners and the reviews are very mixed.
One of the girls I know was left to give birth on a trolley in the corridor on the way up to the ward having had no pain relief, because they thought she was just moaning. By the time they realised she was telling the truth, it was too late and her DC was being born also have heard of someone else in a similar experience. On the other hand, I have heard people saying they've had really positive experiences.
I'm not trying to scare myself, but at the same time I'd rather have all the facts and go in prepared iyswim, so please share your experiences with me; good or no so great. Thanking you in advance

hi i had mine at trelisk started at penrice got moved on to truro, tbh they was good but i thought they was pretty useless my baby had to have 1 of those heart beat sensors on the top of her head coz they was seeing wats on, heart going fast then slow apparently its lack of oxygen and i was 5cm dilated not ready for her to come out so they scared me coz they wanted me to carry on, i did have epidural in the end but had to demand it (im not shy in labour) make sure your not shy with what YOU want not THEM coz i did emergency c section because of lack of oxygen but carried on coz thats what they want, hope this all makes sense that they are good in a way but make sure they no what you want and demand it lol

Yeah thanks for that, I'd just rather go in prepared if they're not so great or whatever you know? I had an operation there a few years back and they were brilliant, but it only takes a few horrible stories to scare you and that's it! Also got told that if you have your baby in a birthing centre and it all goes wrong and they have to transfer you, you only have 30 minutes to get to a hospital... so now I'm too scared to use the local birthing centre just in case! xx

yeah penrice dont deal with any problems they deal with the simple births, and if not simple they rush you down trelisk personal i would say when in labour go trelisk so your already there if any problems which shouldnt happen

Hi Jazzie, I don't know if you've already had your baby but I just wanted to add that I've had two babies at Treliske and can't fault the care I received. That said, the mws are under so much pressure as there's just not enough of them IMO. Especially during holiday season with all the extra unplanned ones. I'm sure it will be fine

Hi, me too, I am booked to have my baby in Exeter (elcs) but we are moving to the Truro area 2 weeks before then. Thinking of sticking with Exeter as i've had such mixed reviews of Treliske. Anyone else had experiences of there?

I had DD there last year. The care on the antenatal and labour wards was really good. The labour ward particularly was really excellent - one on one care and really fast access to pain relief, c-section surgeons etc. Couldn't fault it, whatever I needed I got instantly and I felt completely safe and looked after.
The post-natal care was crap. Complete and utter crap. Two nurses to dozens of women, buzzers going off and not being answered for hours. I ended up in tears on more than one occasion because I had had a section and couldn't reach my crying baby and there was no one to help me The breastfeeding support was also nearly non existent.
Obviously this could change completely depending on how busy the ward is when you go in, but if I have my next DC there I will be heading for home as fast as I possibly can!

I keep hearing so many bad things reports about this place, it really is quite alarming, baby due in May and really have no idea where to opt to have him :(

I'm having my first baby there! I was born there a my sister. I've moved back from exeter just to give birth there in May. I was present at the birth of my cousin there 11months ago and the team were fantastic & supportive. All specialists were there in an instant when complications occurred. 10 days after my other aunt went into labor 7weeks premature my cousin was on neonatal unit until his due date couldn't praise the staff enough for they're efforts.

At the end of the day the staff are humans like us trying to do they're job under pressure. Its fantastic - wouldn't choose any other hospital

Had my baby there in November delivery suite is amazing, post natal ward was not so good. Had a c section so no choice had to stay. had to constantly ask for pain relief and breast feeding support, got sent home too early and ended up bring readmitted. Second time in was much better had my own room and a breast feeding adviser assigned to me. If I could give any advice just make sure you take lots of food, keep asking for things you need and rely on your partner as much as you can to help you. I really wanted to breast feed so just kept hassling people for help. I know it shouldn't be this way but if you go in with the mindset of being prepared it's much easier to cope.

Hello, I had ds1 at Helston birth centre, water birth, which in itself was great, but as its not staffed (midwives come in for delivery then leave) I had to go home immediately. In principle this should be no problem, but little one had problems feeding, we were sent home without him feeding properly and despite a call to the unit for follow up the nex morning no contact was made. We ended up being admitted to Treliske post natal ward. My experience was mixed, like most places it depends on the people. Some were great, others truly awful. It is hard when you -are a hormonal mess- have just given birth, but stay true to yourself and if you are not happy say so, or get someone else to do so on your behalf.

I know this is a zombie thread but I'm going to be giving birth here in a few months (thankfully out of tourist season, so hopefully it'll be slightly less crowded!).

I understand they have put a lot of work into improving things there over the past few years, but but does anyone have more recent experience of giving birth there? All the staff I've dealt with so far have been absolutely lovely.

If anyone has any recent tips or experiences they can share would be great.
I am also due to give birth here, but in a 4 weeks, (right in the middle of tourist season), and I am a bit worried about it after hearing a lot of scare stories.

Good luck Grumple! I have to say any of the less good stories I've heard are from at least a few years ago (although it doesn't sound too much like their postnatal care is amazing).

Just had an amazing experience at Treliske with my second baby. Both born by c-section.

They weren't great with my first 4 years ago - silly mistakes were made and some midwives were rude but this time around, I couldn't fault them at all.

They have improved a lot. There have been horror stories in the past but haven't heard many bad things about them recently.

Thank you shootingstar I had and awful time when I lost my dd there last year I'm due again at Xmas and having a c section so that is really nice to hear
