Where is the cervix?

Hi, I'm 39 weeks pregnant with dc2 and have been having painful contractions roughly twice an hour since early this morning.

This is totally different to dc1 which started with less painful but much more regular contractions that didn't go away.

Wanted to check whether this was a false labour or whether anything was happening so did a quick self-exam . Basically, I couldn't even feel my cervix but not sure I was feeling in the right place . Could this mean it's still too high for labour to begin or is it just that I can't reach properly around my massive belly?

I have no idea, might be worth nipping to see midwife or ringing labour ward to get checked out by them. I wouldn't know my cervix if I felt it anyway .

Could also be as you have short fingers, may require long fingers for cervix check

OK i used to wear the cap and the nurse said feel up and back until you feel a Roman nose although tbh i think you should go and see a midwife

Thanks for your help

Mrspear I think I've been feeling more towards the front than the back. Will try again later.

Have an appointment with the mw this afternoon so will ask her to check, just too impatient.
