What was your first period like after childbirth?

I suspect I ovulated last week, have been having occasional painful period cramps since then so am gearing up for AF to return to the fold (eww inadvertant pun!).

My baby is almost 4months and breastfed so I was hoping for a bit longer. But the cramps are quite grim so am a bit scared the first period after childbirth is going to be grim.

What were others experiences?

Mine was not until baby around 7 months around 3 weeks after stopping breastfeeding and it was totally normal.

How is your DD doing?

Mine returned after 7 months too. For the first couple of years after each birth they were painless (bliss, after always suffering v bad pain before) and short, only lasting 3 or 4 days.

I am now 47 and they have become random, more frequent, heavy and very painful again.

Got mine recently (dd 10months). It was ok. Not heavy and not painful.

Thandeka · 24/05/2010 12:21

oooh so maybe mine aren't as imminent as I thought- esp as the presence of EWCM was now 12 days ago and my LP is only 10-12 days- fingers crossed they don't hurry back!

DD is doing great- apart from being a complete insomniac in the day (thankfully not too bad at night!) she just wont sleep really at all during daylight! Docs v. happy with her progress and so am I -she is exceeding most of her milestones so not too worried about the oxygen starvation impact now. Huzzah!

Hi Thandeka - good to hear that your DD is doing well.

re: EWCM - this is common with BF, your body many times will gear up to ovulate, and then because you are breastfeeding it abandons the attempt (the actual suckling suppresses ovulation)

re: insomnia - try this [http://www.amazon.co.uk/Sensational-Baby-Sleep-Plan/dp/0593062817/ref=sr_1_fkmr0_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1274 791055&sr=8-1-fkmr0 link]

does she not fall asleep in her carseat esp late on in the day?

Mine was about a month after stopping BF. Mine was weird though because I went straight back on the pill when I stopped BF, which caused me to bleed very slightly every day for the first packet, then when I finished the packet had 2 days of heavy bleeding then it was over and now it's normal again - strange!
