36 hours of irregular contractions...

Hey

I've been having contractions for 36 hours now ranging from every 5 - 20 mins (and even including a 6 hour gap in the middle!) They are now down again to 15 mins or so.

It's getting exhausting and I can't work out if they are real or not - should I walk around an encourage them or like down/have a bath and see if they go away!?

cheers!!

THis the totally normal latent phase of labour as your body gets ready to go into full blown labour. It can be paonful and very exhausting. Have a bath and also take 2 paracetamol. If it eases in the bath then once you are out the bath try and go for a sleep. Do not walk about to encourage them as it is too realy and you will exhaust yourself. Try to ignore them as much as you can and not time them. You will see the change when it is the real thing.

oh no, I had 12 hours of this and was driven mad by it.

Think its best to have bath to see if they go away and then try and sleep. Midwife wanted me to come in as they didn't stop or slow down enough to sleep/rest after a bath (and paracetamol) and he was born 4 hours later.

Don't walk around will make it worse and you'll get tired....

Cheers, I have spent most of the day chilling but still getting them every 10-15 mins with no change!

Have to let DH go to work tomorrow which worries me but sounds like I'll know if it turns into full labour and will have enough time to call him and warn him...

No one warned me that this might happen for quite such a long period!

When you get to the point you have to struggle to talk through them call your DH to come back even if they are not totally regular.

Mine never got totally regular....
