mine was rare rib eye steak, spinach and roasted butternut squash. I can still remember the taste and it was nearly 3 years ago. Something about that period that makes heightens all of your sensed, because the same dinner has never tasted as good since...

big fry-up brekkie with black pudding and runny yolk egg...yummeeee

trellism · 16/05/2010 21:59

I wanted some dangerous cheese but ended up having kosher vegetarian schnitzel in hospital after an emcs. The kosher meal was a tribute to my Orthodox Jewish doula, an utter treasure.

littleducks · 16/05/2010 22:09

Is this immediately afterwards or in the days/weeks afterwards? I only got tea and toast and that sems a bit sad in comparison

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 16/05/2010 22:12

Nothing good for 3 days because I was in hospital.

Once I was home - rare fillet steak, champagne and runny cheese. Mmmmmm.

ShatnersBassoon · 16/05/2010 22:12

Tea and toast for me too. I couldn't have handled anything more exotic.

heebies · 16/05/2010 22:14

I delivered in the early hours of Sunday morning and came home later that day. All the family arrived for a 'viewing' and my thoughtful SIL brought two, plated up, full roast dinners. That evening we sat down to them after heating them up in the microwave and a sunday dinner has never tasted as good since!

I mean first meal at home, not the hospital stuff

lovely hearing your dinners, but making me hungry and I should be going to bed!

didn't have one. Too busy, food didn't really matter

LaDiDaDi · 16/05/2010 22:32

Dd, vegetarian lasagne. Dp met the neonatal consultant on the team looking after dd whilst in Sainsbury's buying the meal.

Ds, Domino's pizza on coming home, Xmas dinner a few days later.

thisisyesterday · 16/05/2010 22:36

ds1: um, i dunno, some crappy hospital food

ds2: chinese

ds3: chinese

can you see a pattern emerging??

Valpollicella · 16/05/2010 22:43

Had the ubiquitous toast after DS was born. Can still taste how amazing it was. Like it had been toasted and buttered by angels or smething.

Then the usual shit hospital food for two days.

But when I got home. Steak pie, mashed pots and spinach.

OMG

Best. Meal. Ever.

Like someone said above, can still remember it all. Unbelievably gooooood

In fact, I can pretty much remember all the dinners I had in the first week at home with DS, how strange?

(and they were all SO Good)

MmeLindt · 16/05/2010 22:45

Massive big medium cooked steak, with spinach and potatoes.

And for breakfast a soft boiled egg with parmaham and soft cheese.

Right after the birth I had semolina, it was lovely and comforting.

Poledra · 16/05/2010 22:47

After DD1, I was a bit anaemic, but the MW said they'd rather not put me on iron tablets and could I just eat iron-rich food please?

Came home after 5 days to steak, black pudding, home-made chips and broccoli followed by bread-and-butter pudding (OK not iron-rich, I just love it) courtesy of my parents who were staying with us. DH, god love 'im, is not much cop in the kitchen......

Oh, and Dad had bought me a box of chocolates as the MW had said dark chocolate was good for iron too.

Yum!

swissmiss · 16/05/2010 22:51

Dominos Pepperoni Passion Pizza

FIL who'd come and collected us from hospital offered to treat me to anything I wanted. He was reckoning I'd go for steak or something similar. I don't think he'd ever eaten pizza in his life, never eats cheese, and i'll never forget the look on his face as he gamely chomped his way thru it. He then dashed out for a bottle of fizz as I was somewhat peeved with DH for not getting any in to celebrate.

I got home to a fridge full of champagne, pate and blue cheese, filled by some very sweet friends - and having craved all those things for 9 months, I didn't fancy any of it! Mum cooked a roast and it was bloody lovely.

stressheaderic · 16/05/2010 22:59

"buttered by angels"

Got home from hosp late Sunday night, Monday morn, had fry-up with 3 runny eggs, then lunch had two large baguettes, one with soft cheese and parma ham and the other with liver pate. Yummo.

ShowOfHands · 16/05/2010 23:02

2 day labour, em cs late at night, kitchens closed, no food. Breakfast was prunes and cornflakes (bleurgh).

Got home and dh cycled out for fish and chips. Oh god, I need some time alone just remembering them.

gomummygo · 16/05/2010 23:11

My wonderful DH brought me everything I had pined for throughout pregnancy to the hospital as I had to stay for several days... a rare filet with gorgonzola mashed potatoes that night, a soft cheese plate later that night (that was the best!), and the next morning a soft boiled egg, parmaham and a wickedly strong coffee! He scored SO many points with the food....

Fibilou · 17/05/2010 09:25

first thing I ate after the birth was a square of Lindt plain chocolate iwth sea salt flakes. I love it and save it for a mega treat as I can only get it in France. It always tastes delicious but that square in the delivery room tasted especially delectable.

No idea what my first meal was, we left the hospital without so much as a piece of toast ! I think DH might have got a takeaway

Fibilou · 17/05/2010 09:26

oh and a lot of champagne. We had a very special bottle we had been saving and we had that the day after we got home

Nymphadora · 17/05/2010 09:36

Ugh you just reminded me of being totally starving and being offered hospital food

One of the first things I ate after dd2 was weetabix coated in marmalade. I don't like either but was starving and wasn't resorting to milk. It was how I found out about the local Italian takeaway( starting a two year obsession til they shut ) They were delivering to the maternity ward!

BessieBoots · 17/05/2010 09:38

I had made a huge vat of mushroom soup for my dad, who was looking after DS1 whilst I was giving birth. In the event I was only in the hospital a few hours, so had to eat the whole thing myself (when I really wanted chips with loads of salt and vinegar!)

WorzselMummage · 17/05/2010 09:39

Dd - I salmon and cucumber sandwich and a clotted cream scone from sainsburys cafe. After 7 months of puking after every meal it was delicious !

With ds - lovely hospital toast and tea ! Yum !
