have been told by midwife to eat pineapple to maybe help kickstart labour. have a huge bowl of the fresh stuff sitting next to me just looking like heartburn in a bowl. is it worth it or am i going to suffer for no reason????

I don't know, but it would certainly prevent you from getting constipated!!

Lost track of the amount of pineapples I ate with DS2, I was literally eating at least one a day from 39 weeks, he still went 10 days overdue! Took me months before I even wanted to look at another pineapple!

Try sex instead, much more fun

I think they say you need to eat 5 or 7 whole pineapples! Having said that I didn't know about this old wives tale and I went crazy for pineapples and then went 2 weeks early.

It's all bollocks. Eat pineapple if you want to eat it. Don't expect it or curry or sex or hanging upside down out the window to help.

The enzyme in pineapple that is linked to labour is needed in huge amount to have an effect. You'd need to eat 8 fresh pineapples in one go to replicate it.

Do something you like doing and expect your baby when it's ready.
