I gave birth 4 weeks ago and the physio told me to wait till after 6 week check to swim. It all depends on whether you ha d a c section and how your wound is etc. Ask your doc just to be on the safe side.

I started running at 12 weeks after my ELCS and felt fine.

I think they key is to start slowly and stop immediately if you feel any pain at all. Make sure the instructor knows about your section and checks your tummy muscles have moved back together before you start doing any crunches.

(To check yourself - lie on the floor, put hand, palm towards you just above your belly button and do a slight crunch. You'll be able to feel the gap. Anything more than 2 fingers in width and you shouldn't be crunching yet)

Will probably make a difference if it was an elective or an emergency too. DS was an EMCS and I felt battered afterwards - probably because of the speed they needed to get in. DD was an ELCS and I felt fine afterwards and was up and about much quicker.

thanks ladies, will check and see if they have moved back together again first.
