Has anyone had a labour longer than 24 hours with second baby?

Am due fairly soon with no. 2 and starting to worry about the birth. DS1 took over 48 hours of painful labour to come out (and then only grudgingly via EMCS).

Bub is posterior again this time so wondering if I'm in for the long haul again. I did read a babycentre survey not so long ago that said about 2% of labours with second babies do take 36 hours or longer.

What with long labour + long hospital stay post C-section last time I'd done about 5 nights of total sleep deprivation by the time I got home On the plus side the hallucinations I had at the end were totally wild - but don't think I can cope with that this time with two to look after.

Can anyone reassure me?

Nope - 3 hours here

muddleduck · 27/04/2010 15:30

DS1 - 3 days.
DS2 - 3 hours.

Dc1 2.5 days
dc2 2.5 hours (may have been a bit longer but I thought I was just having BH)

Ds1 - 37.75 hours
Ds2 - 24.5 hours
Ds3 - 20 hours.

Sorry - I should have added that although ds2 and ds3's labours were both pretty long, second stage was very short in both cases - I was an hour and a half pushing with ds1, a minute and a half with ds2, and two pushes with ds3 - so there is some light at the end of the tunnel.

That's so reassuring! Would love to have a 3 hour labour this time around (or a 1 minute pushing stage - wow!) Cheers everyone

DS1 10 hours - emergency section @ 8 cm (for foetal distress)

DS2 24 hours - emergency section after 1 hour of pushing (failed forceps)

Sorry!!

But DS2 birth was 'better' felt more in control as I knew what I was facing into (if that makes sense)

OK so I think I've answered my own question here as have now been having contractions for 30 hours in this my second labour. Still only latent stage though - been 8mins apart for like forever - but painful enough to stop me getting any sleep!

Anyone got any suggestions to get things moving? I am already completely knackered!! Or alternatively bring them to a halt.

DD1 3 days
DD2 12 hours
DS1 28 hours

Multiplex - if you want to rest/sleep, a stiff gin and tonic and go to bed. If you want to get things going, walk up and down stairs. Try and do two at a time or lunges. (If that sounds awful, do the bed thing and get some rest). Good luck!

DS1 12 hours
DS2 5 days (don't ask!!) I was 5 cm dilated 5 days before he came, having vague contractions but not very much pain, they kept sending me home.....

However 2nd stage was quick, only about 45mins...

DS3 emergency cesaer....

Thanks Carmen and Janajos - I was toying with the idea of the stiff drink last night but was worried that if baby suddenly decided to come quick he'd be born drunk as a skunk but as it turned out fat chance.

think I will try the stairs, ghastly as it sounds....
