Do you think I will be allowed an elective caesarean?

I was planning a natural birth with my DD but then when I was in labour they found she was breach (not detected in pregnancy) so had to have an emergency caesarean. I am planning on having a second baby and would like to have an elective caesarean this time for a number of reasons:

  1. i know what it was like, will be prepared
  2. i want to be more in control and not go through the trauma last time of an emergency caesarean
  3. I know people who have problems recovering after a natural birth (incontinence etc.) and think that I don't want to have to deal with that as well as the scar I already have. As I have already had one CS what are the chances they will let me choose one next time? And is there anything I can do to make them?

Yes I think it's quite likely you'll be able to get one.

I would stress point 2) with them, that you found your birth traumatic and don't think you can face that again.

With regards to risks of natural births, in your shoes I would just say that you are more willing to accept the risks of a caesarean delivery than a natural delivery.

Good luck!

I think you are entitled to one, actually.

AFAIK, they cannot require you to have a VBAC, as it carries more risks than a straightforward vaginal birth.

It's your body, just tell them you want one.

I don't think a previous c-section is actually in the NICE guidelines for ELCS, having read them very few things actually are.

BUT, every single person I know who's ever had a previous c-section has been offered one in sunsequent pregnancies.

I hope you get what you want, good luck
