2nd baby - when did head engage?

Just wondering what other people's experience of baby's head enaging has been with 2nd and subsequent babies. I am 39+5 and the midwife said this morning that head is engaged. I've heard that often baby's head doesn't engage until very close to labour with 2nd babies - was this true for you? Can I start getting excited or is it yet another of those signs that could mean nothing at all?
Thank you

I've been head engaged with my second for a week now and was wondering the same thing. I think partly depends on how engaged the head is, but seems like timing varies. Not sure why people say the head only engages close before with the second.

DS2's head engaged at about 37 weeks, but he was still over a week late.

With second and subsequent babies, the head can engage and then drift back out again a few times - and a few weeks - before labour actually starts. The space is tighter for first time babies, so they generally stay engaged.

FWIW, mine (4th) has been up to 2/5 palpable at appointments, only to be 4/5ths at the next appointment. So I don't read very much into it!

My babies head has been engaged for 5 weeks, 2 of those fully - I am 41 weeks today!

Patiently waiitng for the arrival of the baby........!

The day before I went into labour with DD2 the head was 4/5 engaged.....so I guess she didn't engage fully until labour started.

Oh well looks like I might well go overdue again. Ended up being induced at 41+4 with DS and was hoping this was a sign that it might not come to that this time . I shall just have to carry on with bouncing on the trampoline I guess - at least that has the added bonus of entertaining DS at the same time
