because this is my 3rd child!but im only 38+2 and have gone to 40 weeks with my others.

i've been having period like pains since last night.i would have assumed this was the on set of labour, only it's a more constant pain, rather than contractions (ie coming and going).it went went i went to bed last night, but came back as soon as i got up.

i've had them all day and they get worse when i stand and my belly goes hard.but they haven't become anymore intense, just the same as last night.

the baby is moving,so it's ok..

does anyone think this is slow labour?

I've been having the same (last weekend, when I was 38 + 4) and they just went away by Monday I talked to my lovely friend and also childbirth teacher and doula about it, and it's either a very gradual going-into-labour sign, or your body practising. As this was 5 days ago for me, it was my body practising!

I'm now 39 + 2 with it's my second DC, btw, if that makes a difference?

Oh, and the baby is still moving fine, too, which is something I'm much more interested in, obviously!!

Hope all is going well for you today, and hopefully, if you have a partner, s/he can help out with the other two DC this weekend and give you time to rest!

motherbeyond · 17/04/2010 17:35

was it like constant period pains or did tey come and go?

my back is killing me too, which i would usually take as another sign, but it's been killing me for the last month..so it's no indication of anything.

i don't feel ready for this baby at all!

Isn't this a session of Braxton Hicks contractions?

motherbeyond · 17/04/2010 17:58

if it is it's one long fucker!!

motherbeyond that is exactly what happened to me with number 3 but it went on for the last 2 weeks(sorry), every night I would go to bed thinking this is it,
I'm going to wake up in labour, the night that I went to bed completely fed up and relaxed no signs of anything was the night I woke up in labour, and dd2 was born less than 4 hours later!!!

I reckon my body was doing loads that 2 weeks

good luck

motherbeyond · 17/04/2010 18:40

aarrrgh!!2 weeks?

i'm not exited,i'm scared.i was excited the last time, and it hurt more than the first...now i'm just bricking it!!

I had this for what seemed like forever with my second. Never had so much as a braxton hicks with my first, went massively overdue and ended up with an induction. With my second, I was the same amount overdue (11 days) but I think the week and a half of constant period pain had dome something miraculous. My waters broke, straight into contractions about 3 minutes apart, and he was born 3.5 hours later. I would take it as a good sign, and get prepared for delivery sooner rather than later. I was so surprised by my waters breaking, despite being 11 days over, my labour came literally out of nowhere

motherbeyond · 17/04/2010 18:57

im not expecting to go tonight,i was 2 days over with my first 2 days under with my 2nd...so was expecting there abouts for dc 3.plus,i think i've been so busy with my others ,just turned 4 and 2..i haven't had time to think about this one. all i did when i was pregnant with dd was dream about meeting her and wishing the time away...

im sooo not ready,i feel like it's my 1st again!

Mine were like period pains interspersed with back ache and painful tightening all across the lower half of my tummy.... but haven't come back since then Actually, I'm not that as my mum is due to fly in on the 20th, and the baby has to stay put till then, at least!

I think it's good not having too much time to think about it... nice having DS as have to spend time with him and not so much time to obsess as with the first one, IYSWIM?

PlumBumMum · 17/04/2010 20:05

motherbeyond I felt like that, and remember making a feeble attempt at 'I can't do this to dh' and dh said course you can and I said ok

I really had to keep thinking, I will be fine, I've done it twice before

YOU WILL BE FINE YOU CAN DO IT!!!

Know what you mean though about not having time, I thought it was because we had just moved house maybe pg 3 is like that

thats why I'm waiting awhile to ttc #4 so I can enjoy what will most likely be our last addition

motherbeyond · 18/04/2010 07:59

thanks plumbum i've not much choice really have i?!!

don't envy you a house move at that stage..i thought 3 weeks was bad enough last pg!

pains diminished late evening, but by 11 pm i had to get dh to get me some paracetamol. they disappeared in the night unless i got up for a wee.
just having breakfast and can feel them creeping back

Hope you're doing ok Motherbeyond

AngryWasp · 18/04/2010 21:48

Sounds like you're doing all the work now. When the baby decides it is coming it will be the easiest labour ever.

motherbeyond · 19/04/2010 07:53

still the same!dh is going to work as usual and i'll be here with the lo's...feeling apprehensive about that. every time i move i get tummy pains and rock hard tum,but it's been going on since fri eve.
was ok over the weekend,i could let dh take over while i sat on sofa...but now?!eek
