Sorry, bit of a grim ask but I think my mucous plug came out last night and I am supposed to be going away for the night this evening (about an hour away from hospital), Im 40 weeks on Monday so just wanted to find out how soon people tend to go into labour after this happening so I can decide whether to cancel or not. Thanks

it was ages with me - I lost my plug at about 35 weeks and then didn't go into labour until 38 weeks.

But at 40 weeks I think I'd take it as a sign that things might be moving. You could always go and then come back if you feel any cramps etc...?

An hour's drive is not too bad, I'd wait and see if you start having any contractions before you decide to cancel. And if you start having contractions whilst your away you can always go home again can't you?

FWIW, I had a show on the Wednesday and went into labour on the Sunday, first time around, but DD wasn't actually born until the following Tuesday!! With DD2 I had a tiny show then on the Wednesday (again!) and then had stop-start contractions until Monday night when she decided to make her entrance. Oddly enough both of mine were born at 39+5 too.

Thanks for the advice. I am now getting period like cramps, sods law isnt it, plan a nice weekend away. I can hardly turn up at the posh hotel with my birthing ball and an enormous bump!

Hmm, strong period pains were how both my labours started, I think I'd phone the hotel and explain, they might be really nice and allow you to postpone your visit!

How exciting, good luck!!

Within 24 hrs both times.

Best of luck

I lost my mucous plug when I was already in labour- I'd been having contractions for 10 hours already.

Good luck for the birth!

I lost mine in the morning, waters then broke at midnight and went into labour about 2am, so that's about 16/17 hours. But I didn't need to go to hospital until lunch time the next day.

Best wishes!

breastfeedingquestion · 10/04/2010 13:08

Same day - maybe 8 hours?

Granny23 · 10/04/2010 13:23

20 days. Longest 20 days of my life, stuck at home, waiting for something to happen.

mosschops30 · 10/04/2010 13:25

I didnt with either, lost the plug after sweeps but no labour
Good luck

thesteelfairy2 · 10/04/2010 13:27

About 10 days.

notjustapuppymum · 10/04/2010 15:49

About 2 hours afterwards.

jurisfictionoperative · 10/04/2010 23:12

Two or three weeks before being induced! Midwife basically said it really didn't make much difference!

tostaky · 11/04/2010 19:14

Lost mine on my due date and gave birth at 40+6

pigleychez · 11/04/2010 21:53

Lost mine after a sweep at about 4 days overdue. Still had to be induced at 12 days overdue and DD wasnt born till 14 days overdue!

mama2moo · 12/04/2010 09:13

Mine went at 4am in the morning and dd2 was born at 3am the next! Good luck.

mumtotwoboys · 12/04/2010 09:16

Mine went yesterday and I'm still pregnant (40+2) grr :-p

scarycanary · 12/04/2010 09:22

darlingbab good luck and please update us all.

Humania · 12/04/2010 09:23

Mine went at 10.30am, labour started a couple of hours later and dd was born at 3am the next day. How are you darlingbabs? Does lack of posting mean you're in labour?!
