Mears or anyone else with knowledge of hospital notes, please can you tell me what "mode of delivery - vertex lift out forceps" means?

Just reading my hospital notes.

I know (or think I know) that lift out forceps are low forceps, but can anyone tell me what vertex means pls?

vertex is the top of the head. so i assume vertex lift out would be just assisting with the very last bit - if babes head was just about there, a small tug on the frceps then the rest would follow.

Thanks eccentrica, it also says neville barnes forceps, so i assume that's low forceps?

Neville-Barnes are use for low to mid forceps births
The are different from the keillands or high forceps which ae very rarely used.

was pondering this last night - didn't word it well. by vertex lift out perhaps the dr went in with the forceps and assisted babe down until the top of the head was born, then took the forceps off and the rest of the head followed,

Thanks eccentrica.

I know the Dr who did the forceps told me the babies head was stuck and I wouldn't have been able to deliver her naturally (I think I had worked that out myself after 2 hours of fruitless pushing on all fours!)

But can't really see anything about her head position in the notes. I know def wasn't full rotational forceps as you say, think she just twisted her head a bit.

She had a large blister on her head til about 8 weeks which I assume was where the wrong part of her head was stuck in the cervix.

Dr def didn't take the forceps off though - DH was watching and apparently she delivered the head, saw cord was round her neck and pulled out her whole body with the forceps too.
