Burning sensation in the groin at 38+2, what is it?

Hi Ladies

Just wondered if anyone had experience of a strong burning sensation/pain in the groin? What causes it? I had my urine checked at a midwife appointment on Friday and it was clear. I have been having lots of period pains and some tightenings.

Thanks in advance for any answers.

Hi Warmseabreeze. I had this, started the other day just before 39wks. I was convinced it was a urine infection (burning feeling, sharp low down pains, a bit of cramping and needing to wee lots). I was so convinced that when the midwife tested a sample and said it was clear, I asked for a doctor to test it too! That too came back negative for an infection. The only explanation they could offer is that maybe the baby had engaged and was pressing on my cervix. Now 39+4, and the burning feeling has gone, all other symptoms remain. I would see someone and get checked for UTI just in case. Not much help I guess, just to say it isn't that unusual!

sorry, just read that you have been checked for UTI already. If you find out what it is please let me know!

Tightenings/period pain could be your uterus getting into gear for labour.

A burning sensation in the groin could be referred pain from your pelvic bones loosening up, in preparation for labour. This can hurt - a lot - and not always in the place where the problem is. Is is worse when you've been walking around a lot?

Sorry, there can be an awful lot of pain/discomfort around labour time, and a lot of if doesn't make much sense.

Thanks Laura, yes it is happening when I have been walking around! Oh how exciting!! X

i used to get a burning pain there with my SPD, your pubis is probably loosining in prep for labour.
Its a good thing, means your more stretchy down there and should have a eaiser pushing stage

i had this at 39weeks to, only lasted a few days (2max)was also tested for a UTI and came back clear, so im guessing its your pressure on your pubic bone and the baby's head engaging or somthing
