Membrane sweep at 40+5 weeks! mucus plug question!? advice plz!

first post on this site so plz bear with me!
i had a sweep yesterday at 10.am and immediately the midwife said i was having a show (lots of red/pinky mucus stuff that turned brown over the rest of the day)which continued all day. she was of the opinion that i wouldn't have to wait much longer but booked me in for an induction on wednesday morning anyway just in case ( which i am trying to avoid if possible)
i had a few contractions and lots of pain when the baby is moving but not much more eventful than that really
this morning the mucus turned more clear and snotty looking with just a few streaks of fresh looking blood in it, came out in a big blob sort of, and im still a bit sore with the odd contraction.
just wanted to know if its normal for the show to go from bloody to clear and what to expect next really, i have had a baby previously which was born at just 38weeks but i didn't have a show or anything till i was already 5cm dilated and admitted to hospital, so this experience has been very different.
so im just wondering what to expect next from other peoples previous experiences and if its normal for a show to go from bloody-then brown and then clear and thick?????
thanks!

Didnt want to leave your post unanswered - I have no idea about mucus plug (despite being 40+2 with baby #2)
I think you should call the hospital and ask a midwife, just to check.

I think it's looking good for you! I had my son within a day or two of having a membrane sweep+show.
It's certainly showing things are getting ready to happen. I think you should have the baby before wednesday surely :-)

I have only had what could be mucus or what could be called a clear show(I'm confused on that), so maybe that's just mucus you would get regardless.

its clear but thick and blobbly like a snot ball ( sorry tmi!) so its nothing like the normal pregnancy discharge also quite sticky,
ive also been needing to use the toilet quite often (number 2, sorry tmi again) not sure if this means anything though, possible just my body clearing my bowel?? im not sure

Yes this is normal. A sweep can disrupt the 'operculum' in the cervix which comes away as show.
TBH just ignore it. Unless ytou are having regular contractions it does not mean labour is imminent.

No need to get induced if you don't want to.

Sweeps should not be offered till 41 + 3 weeks at the earliest IMO.

i dont really want to be induced but i dont want to stay pregnant for much longer either really, its my birthday this tuesday and im just praying baby doesnt arrive then tbh

Try and wait it out. It is so much easier for you and your baby if you go into labour when your body is ready.

Sex is a good natural way to get labour going - sperm is full of prostin which is an induction agent.

DiamondChyna · 04/04/2010 01:20

did try the old sex trick before the sweep but not been feeling so sexy since then as you can probably tell with all the mucus and stuff lol!
my midwife did suggest another sweep on monday if i havent gone into labour by then, but im not sure really

It's not a question of feeling like it lol. Better than a sweep and more effective!

mears · 04/04/2010 01:28

If you don't want baby on your birthday then leave well alone till after Tuesday.

Muy old dad used to say 'when the apple is ripe it will fall' in relation to childbirth and I think that is so true.

Try and chill

im not so sure my partner would be that 'up for it' either after seeing what a 'show' really looks like, he already finds the word a complete joke i think he would run a mile from the sight of the actual stuff
i dont want baby arriving on my b'day so i turned down the offer of another sweep on moday and im booked for induction of wednesday but its just my luck after all that baby will come on my b'day anyway!!
fingers crossed i guess!
