Bleeding after elective c-section

Hi all,

I had DS2 by elective c-section 13 days ago, all went well and no complications, home after 48 hours.

For first 5 days my blood loss was quite light but then started to get heavier. I thought it was because I was doing too much too soon so slowed right down and although I had bouts of heavy bleeding it did improve a lot. But it's still very heavy and even if I do something relatively easy (wandered round supermarket, not pushing trolley or rushing) and I could feel it flooding out and ended up needing a change of clothes.... Spoke to midwife who said it was my bodies way of telling me to slow down so have been doing absolutely minimum but I still get these sudden floods of bright red blood if I so much as wander round the garden or walk about. I had an emergency c-section with DS1 and didn't have this level of bleeding at all.

Anyone have any advice of whether this is normal or any ways to help it improve as I really want to get back to normal!

Hello, I had an elective and for 8 weeks i was like you, although i bleed heavy for the first few days, got home and it was lighter, then heavier, and it was sporadic turned out it was just because i was doing too much.

I still took iron tablets as i was anemic in pregnancy and that helped, but looking back on early photos i was extremely pale, a few weeks down the line i was back to myself colour wise.

I wouldn't worry unless your experiencing pain with the bleeding or it smell bad.

but if your not reassured make a gp appointment before your 6 week checkup

I had unplanned C section, but bleeding was terrible to begin with, stopped then kept starting heavy when I did too much, midwife said the same as yours, I was doing too much, so I used it as the perfect excuse to sit on the settee and cuddle my lovely new baby!
