TMI warning but would like reassurance on Vaginal Discharge...

Am 37+3, first time pg and going for home water birth.

Yesterday evening I started to leak fluid, it didn't smell but was tinged slightly pink. I called the MW and asked if my waters were breaking and she advised keep to an eye on it, put on a pad and call her in the morning.

After going to bed at midnight the leaking stopped completely and only started again when I got up to go to the loo in the night. Reported this to MW and she didn't seem concerned and said I wasn't in labour.

Now been relatively dry all day but again this evening, a fair amount of fluid has dropped out again which is even more tinged pink. MW thinks this is vaginal discharge as waters leak whether you're lying down or not (apparently, I have no idea!) but would like someone to reassure me that they had this too and that ridiculous amounts of vaginal discharge is normal this close to giving birth. Help..!

hi,

i dont know if this is normal, im on second pg, and never had anything of the sort, is it a creamy discharge? or more fluid like?

i think you should get checked out,

keep us posted, and take care x

it might be a leak, rather than a full rupture of membranes.. waters can be pink tinged

waters can stop and start leaking if the leak is high up and the baby's head acts like a plug..

they can test the fluid you are losing, and you can be checked to see if fluid is pooling

if you are worried, then you can press for more reassurance. in the absence of ctx you are not in labour yet and this could be the start

you are full term, so i would not be concerned on that score

It is more fluid like which is what made me think it might have been waters in the first place. I'm not having ctx just a bit of back ache but in fairness I have had that for the last 5 weeks now!

I'll see how I go tonight and might phone MW in the morning if still leaking, thanks for the advice though

Ring the maternity ward. My water started leaking when I was 29 weeks and I was very closely monitored and one of the things they told me to watch for was pink-tinged water. You'll feel better for getting it checked out anyway.
