i had a EMCS almost a year ago and in the last week or so my scar and area around it had become tingly and itchy. it's also still quite numb in places. it's that sort of numbed by the dentist feeling IYSWIM.
is this normal?

do you ever get the feeling back properly?

Not sure how helpful this is but my mum had an emcs (29 yrs ago!) and says there are still numb patches around her scar that didn't regain the feeling. It wasn't what I wanted to hear before I go in for my section, either, thanks mum!

Hope someone else has some more up to date advice.

It is quite normal for this to happen, and may keep happening to a certain extent for ever. Can also happen to patches on people's legs following an epidural.

aargh! i can't stand not being able to scratch itchy things! hope this too is a phase!
it is not in a good place for itching while you are at work!!!

nearly five years on my scar still occasionally itches at the corners, and a large part of my abdomen above the scar is numb. Personally i think if it hasn't fixed itself by now it won't.
Sorry

Ask GP to take a look- could be thrush, especially if your belly covers the scar in any way.

mrsflux · 15/03/2010 14:26

Could it really be thrush???
I only have a little muffin not an overhang. It's not red unless I'm itching it. Now you've got me puzzled

I had an EMCS 30 months ago and mine is still a bit numb in places also get a little twinge on one side occasionally. Have spoken to a friend of mine who is a health visitor (my own HV is useless!) and she said it sounds perfectly normal.
My mum also has twinges in her old scar occasionally and thats 30 years old.

Lasting numb patches around scars are normal, as the incision cuts through nerves. Nerves can regrow to a certain extent but they do so very slowly. It's quite possible that the itchiness you feel is caused by nerve regrowth.
