Is the baby's head engaged?

Im 35 weeks pregnant and for the past 2 days my pelvis has been aching and in discomfort and I'm starting to walk funnier (it's more uncomfortable when I'm walking). I'm finding it's more of an effort to walk and get up. Also my lower back is aching all the time- as opposed to it just aching every now and then.
Also, yday for about 10 mins I had period like pains and again at midnight for an hour and again on and off today. I don't know if the baby's head is engaged or if it is the period like pains creating the pelvic aching etc. Any ideas or similar experience? I know the period like pains can be a sign of labour, but I'm dubious as I've still got 5 weeks to go.

Is it your first pregnancy? If so then it could well be the baby's head engaging.......My DD1 engaged around 34/35 weeks, and pelvic pressure and period pains were symptoms of that. If it's not your first though you normally wouldn't expect baby to engage until a bit further along....my DD2 started to engage slightly about a week before labour, but was still only 4/5 engaged the day before I went into labour.

If your period pains were labour, they would intensify and get closer together......unless that happens i really wouldn't worry. I had period pains on and off for weeks with my last pregnancy. HTH.

DS2 was engaged at this point and I had him at 35+6wks! Pack your bag just in case ;)

It might be engaging. Have you noticed a drop off in heartburn or an increase in appetitie? I had this when DD engaged as my stomach was suddenly less squashed!

Don't worry too much about the period type pain - it can come and go for a good few weeks before the big day!

Had midwife appointment, baby's head is engaged but I also have Symphysis Pubis Dysfunction (SPD) which is accounting for the pelvic pain etc. I'll just keep plodding along! Thanks for all your comments

I feel the same. Im 37+6 and was going to go shopping today with DS1 age 4 but really dont feel like going far or walking around in case my waters break or something. Feels like its really pressing down & quite painful & lots of braxton hicks tightenings. Think I will just rest & try not to do much - Ive got my bag packed & ready just in case!
