40+6 and bad cold, should i have sweep today??

as title says, am due for my sweep today. Thing is, i've had this dreadful cold for nearly two weeks and it doesnt seem to be letting up.
Part of me is thinking the baby isnt coming because i am not ready to have it with all the coughing and spluttering and feeling run down. Another part of me is thinking if i have the baby then i might start to recover from it as my immune system wont be so suppressed.
I know sweeps dont always work anyway, so if i had it done and clearly wasnt ready for labour then baby wouldnt come, but just unsure of what to do really. What would you do??

Hi BellasYM,

I was in exactly the same situation as you with my first DC: dreadful cold/flu, hacking cough etc; and had a sweep at 40 +5.

It worked and I ended up having a straightforward delivery, but the strange thing was, during my 13-hour labour, all my cold/flu/cough symptoms vanished. Weird! (The 'feeling better' sensation lasted for about 12 hours after giving birth; it was as if my body was giving me time to recover.)

Good luck! X

thanks flower, did you find that your cold 'returned' afterwards? My worry is being ill and have a newborn and a 21mnth DD to take care of

Eek, yes it did come back (was a long time ago; racking my brain to remember), but I don't think it lasted for more than a few days.

I think the 'elation' hormones carried me through!

BellasYM, how's it going?

BellasYummyMummy · 12/03/2010 17:44

hey flower, i decided not to have it today, im in no rush to have this baby tbh, as i would rather have as much energy as poss. Have rescheduled for Sunday (what a wonderful mothers day treat lol...) so will have it then unless i'm still poorly! though am feeling slightly better today so fingers crossed!
